Scouts

All the Webelos!

Cole, Jacob and Ethan

Here is Ethan fusing the end of a rope.

The boys really liked fire. It was making us a bit nervous...

Roasting our hot dogs around the fire.

We had a great time with the cub scouts this week while earning our Outdoor activity pin. I am the Webelos leader for our cub scout pack. For those of you with girls or with no scout experience (I didn't have a clue about scouts until Ethan turned 8), Webelos stand for "We'll be loyal scouts" and are the 10 year old boys. They have 20 different activity pins they can earn while they are a Webelo. Right now we are working on the Outdoor pin. We learned how to set up a tent, tie knots, whip and fuse the ends of a rope, start a campfire, cook an outdoor meal, and learn fire safety. It was a fun filled evening. The boys were very anxious to get to the fire part. They did a good job building it. I think most of them knew more than I did! I spent an hour learning to tie a two half hitches knot. Thanks to quilting, I already knew how to tie a square knot! There were a few more, but I have not mastered them yet. Ethan was tying them faster than I could figure out the first step. Show off :)

I am really grateful for the chance I have to be in cub scouts. I have fun with Ethan and the other boys. I have a great group of young men! I think many times they teach me more than I teach them. It has been a great experience and I look forward to more fun times!
